Some of you may wonder what ECCE exactly is, which is why I'm here. Early childhood care and education is a branch of education which is in accordance with the teaching and development of young children both formally and informally till the approximate age of six. Infants or toddlers also receive education which is a subset of early childhood education and goes on up until age two.

There are various facets which in combination are the stepping stones to a Childs early education. If you look at it this way, parents are their child's first teachers and this relationship is very important between 0-2 years of age because thats when the child attempts and starts developing his/her sense of self and forges an attachment with the parents. The condition and caliber of the attachment formulated at this point and period can have a critical impact on the Childs future education.

Studies show the importance of ECCE in preparing children to succeed in a 'post kindergarten school environment. Some of its advantages include a declining risk of social mental health problems and increase self sufficiency when entering adulthood. Another benefit is its ability to close the achievement gap between low and high income students. It also increases high school graduation. Rates and elevates performances on standardised tests.

ECCE comprises of five crucial components. It should provide a well rounded curriculum that supports an all rounded development, addresses child health and nutrition, it should assess children to elevate student learning identify concerns, it should employ well educated, sufficiently paid teachers, it should provide low teacher child ratios and small class sizes.

These components are the foundation of any ECE program just like ours.

Unicef states that at least 175 million children which is 50 percent of the worlds pre-primary age population are not enrolled in pre-primary programmes and urges the government to issue 10 percent of their national education budget to scale them up. Such funding should be invested in pre-primary teachers, quality standards and equitable expansion, the report by Unicef states.

In this manner, ECCE is one of the best investments a country can make to promote HR development, gender quality and social cohesion as stated by UNESCO. For disadvantaged children it plays a critical role in combating educational inequalities.

Why is this important you may ask, well.. the physical, social and emotional development of young children not only impacts them in the early stages of adulthood but also shapes them as individual people. I believe it is imperative to invest and dedicate not only time but also follow the necessary steps as to maximise and insure their future well being.

Now comes the part about eligibility. If you want to be a part of this program the primary focus should be your passion to work with young children, you must be able to commit a year towards learning new and practical methods of working with young children. Flexible work hours and basic proficiency in English and this program is also for parents who are keen to learn to scientific way of engaging with children and adding a fresh, new perspective on education as well as allow you to broaden your horizons on childhood development.
